Solo This Summer?

July 5, 2016

Ah....summertime. Tan skin, margaritas, vacation, hot days. Summertime is a beautiful time, isn't it? You stay up later, you're outside a lot more, trying new places. There's so much that happens during this sunny season, here in Chi Town anyway.

If you're single this Summer, don't be shy to admit you're a little envious of all the beach pics with "bae." I get it. Take it from someone who has been in a relationship (not the same one) but a serious few relationships the past 4 Summers. Being single during this fun season can suck a little when social media is full of boardwalk couple pictures and happy relationships taking on new adventures.

I say....that is all wonderful, because hey, I was doing that last Summer too! But being single for the first time in a LONG time...I'm taking this Summer as an opportunity. An opportunity to do what I want do to, on MY terms. I'M making new memories with my friends, I'm trying new places to eat with my family, I'm going to take a day to do nothing by myself and maybe read a book on my patio. Being single during the Summer doesn't have to be a bad thing!

Look at it this way...you're free to do WHATEVER you want WHENEVER you want without having to consider someone else! I understand that may seem selfish, but hey, if you're in your twenties or late teens...this IS the time the be selfish!!! We have the whole rest of our lives to be with someone and be a pair instead of an only. I can't even tell you how freeing it feels to wake up and have my own agenda. Not to mention, I have grown so much closer with my immediate family since I have the time now to do things with them with being around more.

So, yeah of course being in a relationship and in love is a beautiful and fun thing, especially during the Summer. But it doesn't have to make or break your Summer! Fun Fact, I attended a friend's wedding by myself recently and I had the BEST time! Go grab your friends and go to the park, have a picnic, spend a night somewhere in a hotel, enjoy your Summer! Use this time to bond with yourself. It won't last forever.
